❄️ Breaking winter ice
January brought the PNW some very chilly temperatures and about four inches of ice at Blue Heron Marina! Brrr! Our heroic coaches got to work breaking up the ice so we were soon back on the water training.

🌷 Spring training
We got off to a great start for race season with some gorgeous days on our home water. Check out those cumulous cloud anvils!

🥇 What a fantastic race season!
March brought Race for the Cookies in Bothell. April took us to Paddlers’ Cup in Gig Harbor. May took us to Fedechko Regatta in Maple Ridge B.C. June brought us to Ted Hauk Regatta in Seattle and Bellingham’s Bee-Ham Regatta. August produced strong showings at the 2024 ACA Sprint Nationals in Gainesville, GA.

Olympic Hopes Regatta
Finn Connell of CCKRT raced at the Olympic Hopes Regatta in Szeged Hungary 19-22 September. After qualifying for Semis in the U17 Mens 500m, but getting edged out for a spot in A Final he again brought the power and speed to a first place finish in the B Final for 500m with a time surpassing most of the A final competitors.
Finn’s speed and determination put him near the top of competition for U17 Sprint Kayakers in the World.

US Nationals
Cascade athletes traveled to Gainesville GA to compete at the 2024 ACA Sprint National Championships at Lake Lanier Olympic Park in August. Of the 26 events that Cascade entered, we raced our way to 12 Gold, 4 Silver, and 6 Bronze Medals.
Go Cascade!

🇺🇸 CCKRT in the community
The Cascade team was proud to march in the Bothell 4th of July Parade again this year, dazzling the crowd with a trailer full of boats, streamers, and great music.

CCKRT’s mission is to teach and train the sport of hand-powered paddling, and compete at regional, national, and international venues. We offer novice camps during the summer months for youth aged 10 -13, no experience is necessary and all equipment is provided. Look for signups in early spring.
Special Edition: Giving Tuesday
November 28 is Giving Tuesday, a “global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world.”

On the water with CCKRT 🚣♀️
The CCKRT Distance Race was held October 28 in Bothell. The sun was out and the day was spectacular! More than 80 paddlers from around the region raced 2, 5, and 10 km courses on the Sammamish River. CCKRT had a great race!
On November 11, we also raced at the Eric Hughes Memorial Distance Regatta hosted by Seattle Canoe & Kayak Club on Green Lake. Check out race results on Crew Timer https://www.crewtimer.com/regatta/r13134
As the 2023 race season winds down, we are super motivated to start winter training. We are paddling, weight lifting, and looking towards next year’s race season! Look for our Spring newsletter in March and have a wonderful holiday season!

What a summer race season! 🚣♀️
Spring kicked off with CCKRT hosting the Race for the Cookies on March 25 on our home water in Bothell. 60+ racers from around Puget Sound competed on a 2K course with staggered start.
April took us to the Gig Harbor Paddlers Cup where paddlers competed in a 5K / 10K circuit in the saltwater harbor. The day wasn’t complete without the favorite Knock Off Sprint. Later that month, four CCKRT athletes attended US National Team Trials at Lake Natoma, near Sacramento, CA.
In May we traveled north to race in the Fedechko Regatta at Maple Ridge, BC. June brought Ted Houk Regatta at Green Lake and July took us to the BeeHam Regatta in Bellingham, and down Bothell’s Main Street in the Independence Day Parade.
In August, eight CCKRT athletes traveled to Sarasota FL for US ACA Sprint Nationals. And to cap off a fantastic summer, four CCKRT athletes competed at Olympic Hopes Regatta in Poznan, Poland, while our U14 and younger athletes raced at the Fort Ridge Fall Classic on Lake Whonnock in B.C.
What’s next?
The CCKRT Distance Race will be held October 28 (10am start) in Bothell. Come out and cheer for paddlers from across the region. Fall brings some soggy days in the PNW, but we’ve often been charmed with sunshine on race day, so come enjoy the fall colors along the Sammamish River and watch some fantastic racing!

After 2 missed races last year and one this year, Saturday we organized Cascade long distance race, probably the most scenic canoe sprint race in the area. The weather was great, a crisp foggy morning followed by sun exposing colorful sights. Volunteers worked hard for making this happen and the 84 athletes from Cascade (Bothell), Gig Harbor, Bellingham, Seattle, and River Town (Petaluma, CA) fought their way up and down the river.
This is a general fundraiser to help support our program. By doing this fundraiser now, we hope to provide additional opportunities, introductory camps and lessons next season. With your support we will be better equipped to serve more athletes in our community for the coming 2021 season. The Covid-19 Pandemic has changed the way we coach and train. As a result we now have must have smaller groups on the water at one time. This requires staggered start times and the use of more coaches, more groups, and more coach boats etc.
We also have a very competitive group of U14s that will need a large K4 so they can compete as they are growing out of our current K4 boat.
Your help and support will be used for purchasing a wake-less coach boat, larger K4, supporting our athletes as they travel to races around the globe next year. The funds will be used as a general fundraiser and may or may not be for one specific item but will go a long ways to supporting our organization. Thank you in advance for your support.
