Long-Term Athlete Development Seminar – how kids become talented adult athletes

Cascade Canoe & Kayak Racing Team is pleased to announce our 2016 – 2017 athlete, parent, and coach education program. Each session addresses a key aspect of athlete development and is designed to help athletes understand how to draw upon the information to improve their race performance, parents how to better understand how to support the efforts of their child/athlete, and coaches to understand the lessons athletes need to learn and how to help athletes use the lessons to enhance performance.
The first 7 sessions are theory focused and each includes a PowerPoint presentation and discussion. The last 5 are practical – on the water or in the weight room, with participants actively learning and practicing the skills. It is strongly recommended that participants attend the theory sessions before the practical.
The first session is on Long-Term Athlete Development and addresses the question, “How does a child become great athlete and perhaps an Olympic Champion.” This presentation applies to all sports, and uses canoe/kayak as an example.
Presentations are conducted by Dan Henderson, Head Coach of the Cascade Canoe & Kayak Racing Team and 2016 USA Paracanoe Team Assistant Coach. Dan has completed graduate level course work and research in exercise science with athletes reaching the Olympic Games and Olympic Hopes Regatta podium.
For athletes, parents and coaches who are part of our program, the session are free. For everyone else, they are $35 per session, $200 for the seven theory sessions, or $350 for all twelve. All members of the community are welcome!
