Mission Continues Fellowship with Cascade Canoe & Kayak Racing Team

March 12, 2017

The Mission Continues empowers post 9/11 veterans who are adjusting to life at home to find purpose through community impact. They deploy veterans on new missions in their communities, so that their actions will inspire future generations to serve. Since their founding, they have always been a nonprofit, non-partisan organization dedicated to bringing together veterans and innovative community organizations to create transformational change for communities in need all across the country. Their operations in cities nationwide deploy veteran volunteers alongside non-profit partners and community leaders to solve some of the most challenging issues facing our communities: improving community education resources, eliminating food deserts, mentoring at-risk youth and more. Through this unique model, veterans build new skills and networks that help them successfully reintegrate to life after the military while making long-term, sustainable transformations in communities and inspiring future generations to serve.

Our Fellow will be with us for 26 weeks and primarily help with outreach in veteran and general population disabled communities. S/he will also help with basic instruction (we will train) of our beginning Paracanoeists. The Mission Continues will provide a 3 day Fellowship Orientation program in Denver and a cost of living stipend during our Fellowship.

This is a great opportunity for a Post 9/11 veteran to continue to serve and help Cascade Canoe & Kayak Racing Team continue to build our Paracanoe program. It’s also an opportunity for Cascade to support the transition of a veteran to civilian life, connect with our paddling and Bothell communities, and be part of our Cascade family.
We’re responsible for finding our Fellow candidates, and would like to ask your help in finding our perfect match. Our candidate should love an active outdoor lifestyle be and a competent swimmer. We will train our Fellow in paddling and club level instruction, so no paddling experience is necessary. Our Fellow will be involved with outreach to veterans, disabled, and youth organizations in our area, so s/he must be mobile and comfortable with discussions on the telephone and in person. S/he and I will work closely together to share our program with our communities, attract new Paracanoeists, provide them with basic instruction, and help them with adaptations. Then I’ll continue as their primary coach as they prepare for regional, national, international or Paralympic competitions – whatever level they choose to pursue..

Would you help us find our Fellow? If you know of a candidate, please help us get together. We need to get on this right away to meet the Mission Continues Bravo Class Fellowship schedule, check our contact page.

Thank you very much.
All the best,
