2025 Race Season highlights

2–3 minutes

CCKRT had a fantastic 2025 race season!

Summer novice camps

We held three month-long introductory paddling camps this summer. Of the 11 kids that completed camp, 6 have joined the racing team. Welcome to all our new racers!

4th of July Parade

CCKRT proudly joined Bothell’s Fourth of July Parade again this year. The trailer was gussied up and athletes “paddled” the route, handing out stickers, summer camp info, and, of course, candy to the adoring public.

US Nationals

Seattle Canoe and Kayak Club hosted US ACA Sprint Canoe and Kayak National Championships at Greenlake on August 12-15. It was a fantastic regatta and CCKRT hit its stride with 27 podium finishes (15 gold, 4 silver, 8 bronze), PRs, and fun all around. Many CCKRT parents served as officials and race volunteers.

International competition

The Junior/U23 World Championships were held in Portugal in July this year. CCKRT’s Finn Connell finished 14th in the U18 K-1 500m and 1000m races and 18th in the K-1 200m. In September, Dexter Barlow competed at the Olympic Hopes Regatta in Racice, Czechia — placing 14th in the U16 K-1 1000m and racing to the semis in K-4 500m. Way to go team USA!

Annual Fall Distance Race

We hosted our Fall Distance Race out of ƛ̕ax̌ʷadis (Tlachwadis) Park in Kenmore on Saturday 25 October. The park turned out to be a great venue for us (shout out to City of Kenmore!), and we had about 80 paddlers turn out for 2, 5, and 10 km races. Thanks to everyone who raced, volunteered, and spectated to make race day a success.

2026 Summer Camps

Coming May, June, July to the Sammamish River. No previous experience needed, all equipment provided. Boys and girls 10-13 years of age. Look for signups in January and help spread the word!

Fundraising needs

Giving Day is right around the corner Tuesday December 2. Please consider making a donation in support of CCKRT. We’re fundraising for several needed items:

  1. We have a team tradition that once new athletes participate in three races they graduate from a plastic paddle to a carbon fiber paddle — and we are in need of three new paddles — the cost for each is $500.
  2. We are also fundraising for boat transport to US Nationals August 2026. The location hasn’t been announced yet, but the Nationals regatta will likely be held in the midwest. Trailering costs are expected to run between $4000 to $5000, a huge cost for our small team.

All donations go a long way — 100% of donations go to directly support our team and mission — funds in any amount are super helpful! Thanks for being part of our support team!
